The
Frog was Waiting in the Garden
The rainy weather was not the only
challenge confronting Kristina Heinrichs in
building this natural pool. To compensate
for the enormous height differential in the
terrain, the natural pool expert from Gartenhof
Küsters had to terrace the surrounding
area to create a comfortable and attractive
access from the house to the pool. The task
comprised both the natural pool and the architectural
design of the entire garden, which was to
complement the modern but inviting design
of the house, besides taking account of the
wishes of the owners as well as five children
in their teens and twenties. Now the garden
offers a variety of places for spending time
and relaxing, according to each user: shady
spots under trees, lawns for picnic blankets,
a wooden deck for sun bathing, and isolated
seating away from the madding crowd. All of
this convinced the jury that awarded the project
first place – and it was almost predestined
for it to win: After initial planning talks
in the garden Kristina Heinrichs found a ceramic
frog with a golden crown – quite similar
to the Design Frog itself. (It’s a sign!)
