Description:
Pölfing-Brunn's (Styria/Austria) community pond was created approximately 20 years ago in the course of regulating the river Weisse Sulm out of one of its former arms. However, the pond no longer met the population's demands for recreation or water quality, and thus was not used very much.
It was clear to the authorities that only an extensive overhaul would improve the pond's attractiveness.
A solution was found in the concept by the planning office Wasserwerkstatt to convert the pond into a Natural Pool.
The entire pond was remodeled, artificially sealed and furnished with wooden docks, a pebble beach, children and toddler Swimming Areas, a wooden diving tower, an island only reachable via a play-ferry, and a beach volleyball court. The regeneration zones and Plant Filter system assure perfect water quality.
The crowds of visitors in the first swimming season not only proved that the new concept for the "Crescent Pool" met heightened demands regarding quality, ecological consciousness and recreation, but also that the Natural Pool was wholeheartedly accepted by the population.
