Description:

The outdoor pool in the community of Lenggries was getting old and no longer met standards of hygiene. Thus the community of Lenggries was faced with the decision of whether to renovate the pool or close it down. As the cost of conventionally renovating the pool was extremely high compared to the relative short swimming season, lower cost alternatives were sought.
Following a joint tour of some natural swimming pools the community arrived at a decision: Lenggries would have a natural pool.
The concept for the renovation was provided by the planning office Wasserwerkstatt Bamberg, which envisioned furnishing the existing pool with regeneration zones, wooden docks and a diving board. A generously dimensioned Plant Filter was to be situated on the lawn above the pool. The first swimming season in 2001 was confirmed by the community authorities and objections regarding hygiene were finally dispelled.
Visitors to the Lenggries Natural Pool vastly exceeded those of its chemical predecessor without ever having reached the threshold values determined by the local health authorities.
