With the renovation and expansion of their hotel, the Marini family from Meran also implemented a new landscaping concept for the surrounding garden and grounds. A swimming pool that was increasingly showing its years was to make room for a natural pool.
The indoor pool on the ground floor leads to a lawn, from where one can enjoy the garden and the beautiful view of the valley. And once outside in the lovely surroundings, one would possibly want to stay there and not go back indoors. The Marinis, who were aware of the latest trends, decided to replace their traditional outdoor pool with a natural pool. Challenges to be met were the steep hillside situation and limited space for the pool. In addition, the building authorities in Meran would allow a maximum depth of only 1.4 meters for the swimming area, and the use of cement was prohibited.
On the positive side, Biotop's corner element construction was recognized by the authorities as a construction method that conformed to nature. After a planning phase of one year a natural pool was built in March in only three weeks, just in time for the reopening of the hotel. The pool was thus available to the hotel guests in its first season. The underwater lighting is a major attraction, allowing the guests to spend long hours on the hotel terrace.
