| PhosTec Ultra in the water cycle
Im Jahr 2008 the research department of Biotop achieved another milestone in the history of the natural pool: the PhosTec Ultra Filter. It makes it possible to keep phosphorus concentration in the water so low that any algae is deprived of its sustenance. Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for algae, which cannot be replaced by other nutrients. In other words, without phosphorus, no algae.
The heart of the new invention is a new filter material that is highly effective in binding phosphorus. It is a so-called anionic absorption filter that works like a magnet. The filter grains, which are positively charged, bind the negatively charged phosphate ions like a magnet. Phosphate is bound in the filter for a number of years until the filter material is saturated. Then the filter material is replaced with new filter material.
The new PhosTec Ultra Filter is integrated in the water cycle. This method not only removes the phosphorus contained in the water of the pool, but also removes phosphorus that has entered the water from other sources, such as rain or bathing guests. In this manner phosphorus is removed each time the water circulates
What is important for the success of the “PhosTec Ultra” is its position in the water cycle. First the water is cleaned mechanically and biologically in a biological filter, e.g. the organic impurities are decomposed by bacteria. The phosphorus bound in the organic substances is released and broken down. Subsequently the water flows through the PhosTec filter, where the phosphorus that was released is bound in the filter material.
Measurements taken over a period of two years have shown that with this technology phosphorus concentration can be kept so low, that algae does not have a chance. In the meantime, Biotop has received a patent for this process
The new PhosTec Ultra Filter is not only the heart of the newly-developed Biotop Swimming Pool, but is also of interest for natural pools that have difficulty with high phosphate values and the related strong algae growth.
